Note:
Simon has had a long-held desire to discover the colours, architecture and culture of the island nation which produced art so highly regarded by the post-impressionists. After returning from a recent, fantastic journey though Japan, covering some traditional tourist areas as well as roads untrod by gaijin, he is presently working on oil paintings from his many drawings done in situ. More an imaginative interplay of symbols, these paintings reflect a westerner's interpretation of eastern expressions such as Shinto mysticism as it affects a modern cultural identity.
His paintings will be on display at Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, Gladstone NSW from 19th March to 1st April 2019.
